Excellent (review) & considers unique points very relevant to photographers like me who want to get onto rangefinders. I find the synopsis at the end extremely helpful, especially when I have access to rarely used M8s at around 2K.

Btw, the dng image link (http://kevinmoloney.com/M9_ISO_1250.dng) is not working. If you could please fix that.

Cheers! Ranjay

You are outstanding, Kevin, in your willingness to share, and guide. And you professionalism and ethics blast forth like fireworks. You certainly bear our name with great pride, and instill it in the rest of us who can bask in your sidelights.

You ask: How many of you image-savvy professionals out there would have spotted this as an alteration? Would you flip several pages deep to hunt for the six-point credit that reads, “Photo Illustration by…”?

Even if I had searched out the cover shot info (which I often do because, well, I'm a byline junkie), would it have even told me what I really needed to know? Almost certainly not. And, "Photo illustration by ..." doesn't even begin to cover the details required to disclose the creation of this work of fiction.

Imagine an Economist editor posting a note at the bottom of an interview that began with, "Quote manufacturing created by ..."

Another thing I wondered, when something like this happens, how much damage is done to the photographer's reputation? Is there a possibility his career can be damaged by something he did not do?

Ahhh yes, like appreciating the unlimited information online, but truly enjoying reading a newspaper in hand. Still today, when I turn the pages in quiet settings like on an airplane or in a book store, I remember my childhood introduction to the newspaper. In the rustling, I hear a kid trying to to refold, this Rubik's Cube; this puzzle with double sided pieces, so that all the margins align. Online takes me makes places, but doesn't have the same affect to take me back.
Great blog Kevin!
